Stress-free grocery shopping may seem impossible, but it doesn’t have to be!
I’m sharing with you my best tips and tricks so you can take your next trip to the grocery store with ease.
1. GO IN WITH A PLAN
My absolute best piece of advice for grocery shopping is to walk into the store with a plan. Make sure that you’ve planned out what you’ll be eating for the next few days or for the week and have it written down.
2. WRITE YOUR LIST IN CATEGORIES
I also like to write my grocery lists in categories so I know exactly where to go and what I need in each area of the store. This eliminates the random walking around and “happening” to walk into the cookie and candy aisle (hiiiii, I’m totally guilty of this too!)
I’ve got a really simple grocery shopping list tool that you can grab to make your list writing quick and easy!
3. SHOP ON THE OUTSIDE
I always suggest to people to “shop on the outside”. The majority of the foods we’re trying to consume more of can be found on the outside o the grocery store, rather than inside of the aisles.
Think about it: more often than not when you walk into a grocery store the doors open up the produce section, and this makes the transition to nutritious foods a little easier!
4. THE MORE COLOR, THE MORE NUTRIENTS
Keep that cart nice and colorful! We tend to rely on only things are greens when we’re trying to get healthy, but always go for the rainbow! Try new things, you’ll surprise yourself by what else is out there besides broccoli and asparagus 🙂
5. FRUITS & VEGGIES
Don’t be afraid to count on fruits and add them to your basket! They are just as nutritious as vegetables are. We need vitamins and minerals in our diet in order for our body to function properly and we get those vitamins and minerals from fruits just as much we do from veggies. PLUS fruits are an amazing alternative to candy and can really help to curb your sweet tooth. My favorite fruits are bananas, strawberries, grapes (try freezing them and then eating them!) and blueberries (tons of anti-inflammatory benefits).
bonus: IF YOU LIKE IT; STICK TO IT
I always encourage people to try new things when it comes to groceries. Eating healthy doesn’t mean only having to eat chicken, potatoes and broccoli everyday. Try something new, and start to make a list of your essentials and the foods you enjoy. Go back to this list when you’re making your grocery shopping list so there’s no need for surprises once you walk into the store.
